Here’s a recap of the best health and fitness articles I’ve read over the past week.

How to make a 27KG Bulgarian Bag (Girevik Gurner).wmv – YouTube

I re-watched the video on making a homemade sandbag from Nerd Fitness and at the end of the video there was a related video on making this bulgarian bag, which I also now want to make very badly. This looks awesome and it only costs about $20 to make.

Make a Medicine Ball “Slammer” – YouTube

I found this one after watching the video on making a bulgarian bag. I love the DIY crowd!

COCONUT ALMOND YOGURT! ~ LOU CORONA ~ Raw Living Food Recipe – YouTube

I want to stop buying yogurt from the store and I want to start making my own. A raw food yogurt, and one coming from Lou Corona and Dan the Man must be good.

Better Shoulder Extension = Better Bench and Dips

I have major shoulder problems when doing dips, so this Mobility WOD is perfect for me. I’m sure it’s a problem for a lot of people. Check this one out.

Conventional vs. Organic: It’s Not About Getting More, But Getting Less For Your Money. Less Pesticides, Dioxins & Co

If you didn’t read my mention last week of the findings from Stanford about organic fruits and veggies not being any healthier than conventional, you’ve probably already heard it from somewhere else. But is everyone reporting the whole story? Most likely not. Read this to learn why you should still eat organic produce.

Strathclyde University wristband shows solar UV levels

This could be a life-saving invention and it’s cheap! These bracelets are designed to change color when the level of UV radiation for the wearer has been reached. They will be disposable and can be thrown out at the end of the day and will only cost about 15 cents each. They’re expected to be available in Spring 2013.

Coconut oil could combat tooth decay

Has coconut oil been deemed a superfood yet, because it seems like every week there’s a new discovery of how it can benefit our health. I’m expecting to see coconut oil toothpaste on our store shelves soon, or at least in the natural health grocery stores.

Exposure to bisphenol A (BPA) early in life results in high levels of anxiety; Soy mitigates effects, study shows

BPA is something that I never really paid much attention to, but now I’m finally starting to wish I had. This study found that in mice, BPA caused higher levels of anxiety, and these higher levels of anxiety actually resulted in gene changes within the brain. Interestingly, a diet rich in soy lessened the anxiety effects of BPA. Of course there are all sorts of questions about soy-rich diets, but this is still interesting news. I’m seriously thinking about upgrading all of my food containers to glass.

How to Squat Properly

Here’s a great step-by-step guide on how to squat properly from a very knowledgeable lifting coach. I want to turn this into a simple checklist to print out and take with me to the power rack.

Maresa’s vegan deviled eggs. Vegan. Deviled. Eggs!!! That taste and look like….EGGS!

Oooh, you have no idea how excited I am to try this. My grandma always makes deviled eggs and I miss them a lot, but now I can make my own and share them with the family. I’m sure everyone will still prefer the classic, but my family is always interested in trying my vegan creations.

Tony Horton’s Guest Appearance on The Dr. Oz Show – 10 Minute Trainer & P90X Weight Loss – YouTube

I really like Tony Horton. He’s funny, clever and hard-working and I’ve always looked up to him. This was a fun interview to watch. I also like that 10% of Tony’s diet consists of chocolate chip cookies 😉

The Problem(s) With Crossfit

This article points out a lot of the things that are wrong with Crossfit, while at the same time talking about how good it can be too. It’s a good and funny read.
