Here’s a recap of the best health and fitness articles I’ve read over the past week.

Wake-up Calls: 7 Ways to Boost Your Energy Without Caffeine

We can all use a boost of energy sometimes, but not everyone likes to get that energy from caffeine. I’m not a fan of the effects of caffeine, at least not from coffee, but I don’t mind the slower effects of caffeine from green tea. If you don’t want to consume any caffeine at all, try out some of the tips in this article. Nothing mind-blowing here, but I’m definitely a fan of the power nap.

Food Photography: How to Get the Best Shot

There are so many bloggers on the internet today, and many, like me and maybe you, are health, fitness and food bloggers. Most food bloggers take pretty good pictures of their meals, but there are some who don’t, me included. I suck at taking pictures of my food, but after reading this, maybe I can take those skills up a notch.

New research shows runners can improve health and performance with less training – University of Copenhagen

It’s a small study (18 runners), but the results are promising. If you’re planning to run any 5k’s this summer, try this protocol to see how it works for you. A 50 percent reduction in training for 7 weeks shaved nearly a minute off of a 5k run. Sounds pretty good to me. It’s only 30 minutes a day and it sounds fun. I have different fitness goals right now, but I might try to squeeze this one in. Lifehacker has an easy to understand explanation of this.

How to Cut a Melon

It’s not that difficult to cut a melon, but it’s always nice to see some new tricks. Once you get this one down, it looks like you can really get the slices cut up into pieces in no time.

High Tech Fitness Gifts for Father’s Day

Father’s Day is this Sunday. If you still haven’t picked up a gift yet, consider buying your dad one of this geeky gifts. Hurry!

Recipe: Chilled Cucumber Avocado Soup

I think the picture accompanying the recipe doesn’t make the soup look all that appetizing because it looks really heavy, but looking over the ingredients eases my mind a bit. I’m willing to give this one a try.

A quick, cheap, accurate test for gluten intolerance

It’s estimated that nearly 1 in 100 people have gluten-intolerance, but most people are unaware that they even have it. New technology is being developed to make diagnosis cheap and quick. The prototype will be presented at MEDICA 2012 in November 2012 and hopes are that the system will be available within the next two years. Or you can just be safe and go gluten-free without the tests 🙂

Unusual Uses for Everyday Food

Everything used in this list is something that most people are likely to have in their homes on a regular basis, so instead of using toxic chemical on your body and around the house, use natural foods instead.

Glutamine for Endurance Athletes

I’ve taken glutamine with my protein shakes for years and I rarely get sick. Even when my fiance gets sick, I never seem to catch it from her. I can’t say for certain it’s because of the glutamine, but I’ll definitely continue to keep using it. I’m also not an endurance athlete, which is what this article focuses on.
